Mission

participantLife Skills Workshop, Inc. strives to help women achieve life success. For the women whom we serve -- who have been homeless, are in recovery from substance abuse, have been incarcerated or are survivors of domestic violence -- this success can be achieved in many ways.

Our goal is, and always has been, to provide a workshop series, one-on-one mentoring, and other services and support to help these women secure and maintain employment, to maintain personal health, to develop positive social skills and to engage in positive relationships

History

An all-volunteer committee of individuals from Bethesda, Maryland area churches organized Life Skills Workshop in 1997. Since its inception, almost 400 women have participated in the workshop series and have taken the opportunity to learn employment skills. Life Skills Workshop, Inc. is now a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization led by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by numerous community volunteers and a small paid staff.

While the majority of past participants have resided in Montgomery County facilities such as the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center, Avery House, Dorothy Day Place and Greentree Shelter, Life Skills Workshops, Inc. programs are available to all women who are transitioning from jail or shelters into the workforce and who make the commitment to attend all of the workshop sessions.
